||This city block in downtown is part of Portland’s rich history as the former site of the Sisters of the Holy Name School for Girls in 1859. In 2008, this site, adjacent to St Mary’s Academy and Ira Keller Park, was redeveloped, failing retaining walls, built from ships ballast in 1865 were rebuilt and the ballast was repurposed as ornamentation, decorative walls, and staircase. The quilted landscape has come to be known as “the most beautiful “the most beautiful surface parking lot in all of Portland”.
